Team APIENC runs Berkeley 5K
My name is Mioi Hanaoka and I am part of the Leadership Team of API Equality – Northern California.
Last November, I ran my very first half marathon with Team APIENC at the inaugural Berkeley Half. We raised over $11,000 to continue building LGBTQ API power to amplify our voices and increase our visibility. Since then, I haven’t stopped running the marathon for justice! In one year, we trained a cohort of storytellers, began piecing together the histories of LGBTQ API activists, and graduated a 5th cohort of summer interns.
This year, we are back at it and we’ve bumped our goal up to $15,000. I’m ready to run the new Berkeley 5K route and raise even more money to continue our work of leadership development and amplifying our voices. I hope you are too! Whether you love running marathons or just strolling through town, everyone’s invited to be a part of Team APIENC. Will you run, walk, or trot with me at the Berkeley 5K?
*If running is not for you, you can still help fundraise and join our post-run celebration at the Volunteer Appreciation Brunch!

Our friend Amy Tran shares her experience running and fundraising with us last year:
“It was such an amazing experience to learn that I could raise money, but even more amazing to learn that a lot of people in my life support what I’m doing and the causes that I care about. It really helped raise my confidence in asking for support. I don’t expect everyone to donate, but when they do, I am so grateful! You never know until you ask!”
Thank you for your support Amy and all our runners! We couldn’t have done it without you. Join Team APIENC so we can run Berkeley and run for justice!
