Join Asians and Pacific Islanders at Trans March 2016!
Hi there! This is MLin, community organizer at API Equality – Northern California. I’d like to invite you to join us in honoring transgender, gender non-conforming, and genderqueer people, lives, and histories at Trans March next Friday on June 24th.
Last year, in 2015, it was my very 1st time joining the APIENC family in showing up to Trans March. As a gender non-conforming, queer Chinese American, I was astounded by the masses of people marching and dancing together. All around me, I experienced and witnessed simple, radical acts of love and power — from holding hands with my partner to standing alongside the life-sized banner our folks held up:“No pride for some of us without liberation for all of us.” – a quote by Marsha P. Johnson, one of the mothers of the queer and trans liberation movement. For our 2nd convening of an unofficial contingent of Asian Pacific Islander trans people and cis allies, it was our biggest turnout yet!
This year, showing up for Trans March is as important as ever, with the recent and countless acts of violence against trans people, and specifically queer and trans communities of color. The Orlando LGBTQ community is on our minds as this tragedy weighs heavily on our hearts. We recognize that it is urgent and critical to resist homophobia, transphobia, islamophobia and all the other systems that tell us we do not deserve to exist. We deserve to exist and thrive within our resilient intersections of identities.
Join us for this year’s Trans March to lift up the lives and stories of Trans Asian and Pacific Islander people. Will you join us to amplify the stories and lives of trans people?
