Asian Pacific Islander Equality – Northern California (APIENC) seeks an Executive Director who will be responsible for overseeing and executing the mission, vision, and day-to-day operations of the organization. The Executive Director works in close collaboration with the APIENC Leadership Team (“Team APIENC”), APIENC organizing staff, and key partners and allies in the social justice movement.

The ideal candidate will have a proven ability to build and sustain meaningful teams, programs, and relationships to advance social change. They will be highly resourceful, strategic, organized, and flexible. This position is for someone who is deeply committed to building LGBTQ API power through leadership development, organizing, and collaboration.

The Executive Director will guide the work of the organization, including fundraising and fiscal management, board and staff development, and oversight of program & communications strategy and implementation.

API Equality – Northern California (APIENC) builds LGBTQ API power to amplify our voices and increase visibility of our communities. Through organizing, we inspire and train leaders, establish intergenerational connections, and document and disseminate our histories.   • Work with APIENC staff, leadership team, advisory council, and key stakeholders to ensure sustainability and growth of organizational programs and impact

  • Fiscal management and oversight of cash flow and day-to-day operations.

  • Raise funds to meet APIENC annual budget needs (~$100,000-150,000) through grantwriting, grassroots fundraising, in-kind support and major donor cultivation.

  • Provide programmatic support to APIENC staff and volunteers, including but not limited to: volunteer recruitment, curriculum writing, event/action planning, training and facilitation, and coordinating logistics.

  • Oversee & support basebuilding and volunteer retention and management efforts.

  • Serve as the primary organization spokesperson to the public, media, policy makers, and other local, state & national social justice organizations.


  • Strong interpersonal, writing, listening, and public speaking skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a diverse range of people

  • Demonstrated experience with staff and organizational development and management

  • Strong communications, organizing, and program development background

  • Proven ability to raise funds from multiple sources, including the ability to cultivate major donors, develop relationships with foundations, and implement grassroots fundraising campaigns

  • Strong track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with a diverse group of stakeholders

  • Experience managing multiple projects and overseeing several teams of staff and volunteers.
